About the Role

A vacancy has arisen for a dynamic and forward-thinking individual to join our leadership team as Principal Teacher – Guidance. The postholder will have delegated operational leadership and management responsibilities within Pupil Support.

Key responsibilities include:

Promoting a nurturing and inclusive ethos that fosters positive relationships, engagement and achievement.

Leading and delivering professional learning relating to inclusion, wellbeing and alternative curriculum pathways.

Contributing to the school’s improvement planning process to ensure inclusion and alternative pathways are embedded effectively.

Supporting robust school self-evaluation processes.

Leading and managing significant aspects of the primary - secondary transition programme, including the 3 day transition and development of class lists.

Planning, development and delivery of the PSE programme from S1-S6 for two classes in each year group.

Contributing to the development and implementation of whole school policies.

Working collaboratively with parents, staff and specialist agencies as appropriate.

Job Details

Subject to the policies of the school and East Lothian Council, the duties of a Principal Teacher, as a member of the school’s management team, is to perform such tasks as the Head Teacher/Depute Head Teacher will direct having reasonable regard to the overall workload of a classroom teacher.

Please Note - Pay arrangements for those starting after 1st day of school session
In accordance with Teachers Conditions of Service (SNCT - Appendix 2.19), Teachers who commence employment with East Lothian Council after the first day of the school session will have their salary for the remainder of the school salary year (which runs from 1 August to 31 July each year), recalculated to reflect how teachers accrue leave and pay.

In these circumstances, a calculation will be carried out upon commencement of employment and leave and pay will be adjusted. Further information will be provided to the successful candidate should this be applicable.
