We are looking for people with enthusiasm, flexibility, great communication and organisational skills and a passion for delivering great customer service to join our team to help visitors get the most from their visit to our museums. Museum Assistants open and close our museums, welcome visitors to our venues, answer enquiries and make sure that everyone has an enjoyable and safe visit. They operate our shops, assist with school and other groups, activities, events and exhibitions.

We operate four unique museums and the tasks and roles vary at each one. For example, at Prestongrange Museum Assistants give guided tours, run the café and undertake cleaning tasks, at the John Gray Centre Museum they work closely with colleagues from Local History and Archives and at Dunbar Town House and John Muir’s Birthplace they work closely with volunteers. No two days or venues are the same! There is also a range of shift patterns available. Please download the additional information about the venues  to find out more.
