We have an exciting opportunity for a Flooding Engineer to join a flexible team of professionals in delivering a high quality service within the Structures and Flooding department of East Lothian Council’s Roads Services team. Your main duties will involve developing and working towards the successful implementation of the Flood Risk Management (Scotland) Act 2009 for East Lothian Council. This will include liaising with The Scottish Government, SEPA, Scottish Water, Local Authorities and other relevant bodies in order to prepare and implement actions under the Local Flood Risk Management Plans.. You will be required to lead on Council flooding and coastal projects and engage and manage consultants to deliver them. You will project manage flood protection and drainage schemes, directing in-house teams and external consultants/contractors in the investigation/feasibility, option preparation, contract administration and site supervision (includes monitoring of progress, contract expenditure measurement and payment certification).
We are looking for a self-motivated individual who has knowledge and awareness of flood protection methods and design procedures. You will also have watercourse, reservoir and coastal defence inspection and maintenance experience. We have a small wider team also responsible for ELC road structure assets (bridges and culverts) and the post holder will be required to provide support as required. You will need to be confident with good verbal and written communication skills and someone who can quickly establish good working relationships. You will also need to be IT proficient as digital technology is used daily as part of the role. You will be working as part of a multidisciplinary team of technical staff and will engage with a wide and diverse audience (technical and non-technical) as well as members of the public.
You will work within an office environment and will be expected to travel efficiently and effectively between various work locations within beautiful East Lothian. You will need to have an ability to work flexibly to meet the needs and demands of the service.

Job Requirements
Relevant Qualifications
Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or relevant Flood related qualification.
Commitment to Continual Professional Development.
Driving Licence
