The salary advertised is full time (35 hours per week). Part-time hours will be pro-rated accordingly.

Hourly rate of pay: £25.21 - £28.15

Temporary secondment cover until 23rd February 2027.

East Lothian Children’s Services have an exciting opportunity for a temporary post of Senior Workforce Learning and Development Officer.

The successful candidate will have a varied remit within a team that delivers on workforce development, learning strategy, quality assurance, and service improvement activity. This is a key leadership role responsible for planning and delivering a workforce development plan that supports the priorities of Children’s Services and ensures compliance with Scottish Social Services Council registration requirements.

The post holder will lead on the strategic planning, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of learning and development opportunities across the service. This includes induction, mandatory training, supervision, leadership development, and specialist programmes that embed trauma-informed practice, Signs of Safety, and Safe and Together approaches.

The role will involve partnership working with service managers, social work teams, universities, and multi-agency partners including the third sector and national agencies. Candidates should be skilled in working collaboratively to lead and deliver varied workforce development projects to a high standard within agreed timescales.

The post holder will also lead on the coordination of practice education for social work students, ensuring the service maintains an active bank of link workers and practice educators, and liaising with universities and the new National Social Work Agency.

Job Requirements

Relevant Qualifications
Approved Social Work Qualification.
Social Work Practice Teacher accreditation or Certificate in Child Protection and commitment to work towards Practice Teacher accreditation.
SSSC Registration is an essential requirement of this role.

Driving Licence
As the duties of this role require you to effectively travel to successfully undertake the full remit of the role, you must hold a current driving licence and have access to a vehicle.*

PVG Membership
This post is considered as a Regulated Role with vulnerable children and/or protected adults, as specified in the Disclosure (Scotland) Act 2020.
