East Lothian Children’s Services have an exciting opportunity for a Social Worker to be trained in the Scottish Child Interview Model and to join the Child Protection Team. The team consists of a team leader, two senior practitioners, one social worker, a full time SCIM trained interviewer. This worker will be expected to undertake the Scottish Child Interview Model training working alongside our police colleagues and the full time SCIM interviewer. The successful candidate will also have a protected, varied Child Protection case load.

Applicants should have a sound value base, excellent communication and report writing skills and a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of Child Protection processes. Applicants should also have knowledge about the Scottish Child Interview Model and a commitment to undertaking the training.

Candidates should work well under pressure and be able to manage competing demands of a Child Protection case load. We are particularly keen to receive applications from Social Workers with knowledge or experience in Signs of safety and Safe and Together.

We are also seeing candidates who are passionate about achieving the best possible outcomes for children, young people and their families. We are committed to promoting a learning culture at all levels of the organisation.

East Lothian Children’s Services are committed to keeping 'The Promise' and keeping children, young people and their families’ voices at the heart of everything we do. Relationship and strengths based social work is at the heart of our practice. We have an open and trusting culture at all levels of the organisation and prioritise continuous professional development and learning. Our staff are our greatest asset and we strive to be supportive, inclusive and child centred by prioritising effective supervision, manageable caseloads and a healthy work life balance.

We are committed to ensuring the children and young people receive a quality service during a Joint Investigative Interview, which keeps their needs and rights at the centre, is trauma informed and carried out by a highly trained social worker. We benefit from access to a clinical psychologist who supports our staff with complex work.

We have an accessible senior management team who are committed to recruiting the best people to compliment the wide range of knowledge and experience that exists throughout the service.

The successful candidate must have experience in Child Protection work and carrying out risk assessments, and a commitment to undertaking the Scottish Child Interview Training.
