Vacancy Information

The salary advertised is full time (35 hours per week, 52 weeks per year). Part-time hours / sessional posts will be pro-rated accordingly.

This is a 52 week non-sessional post i.e. it will include working during the school holidays.
Hourly rate of pay: £12.29 - £13.11

Maternity Cover until 1st November 2024.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed Early Year Support Worker to join our Early Years team.

This is great opportunity to develop your career and gain experience from working alongside our existing team of practitioners to support them in delivering a high standard of Early Years provision.

Whitecraig Primary School is a small friendly, non-denominational school located in the heart of Whitecraig village, just outside of Musselburgh. The school currently serves both the village of Whitecraig and surrounding areas. The village is currently under development and the school role is expected to double in size over the next few yours, prompting the build of a new school and community hub for our pupils and the wider community. We have a current roll of 121 pupils made up of 5 classes which will increase to 6 from August 2023, some of which are composite and a 48 week nursery, which currently holds up to 32 pupils. We have a support for learning room, nurture base, a large hall, GP room and a fantastic amount of outdoor space for our learners to use. We are looking for an energetic and committed individual to join our close knit team, to help maintain a high level of support to our pupils, staff and families. To work in support of early years 'staff by contributing towards the creation of a warm, friendly, safe and caring environment for children aged 2 –5 years.

Job Requirements

Relevant Qualifications
Education: Good standard of general education.

Must hold an SVQ in Social Services (Children & Young People) at SCQF Level 6 (or an alternative SSSC recognised equivalent qualification). If not already obtained, you must commit to achieve the SVQ in the appropriate period of registration to meet the SSSC registration requirements.

First Aid qualification or willingness to work towards gaining it.

Level 2 Food Hygiene certificate or willingness to work towards gaining it.

SSSC registration or agreement to register within 6 months from the date of appointment to this post is essential.

PVG Membership
This post is considered as Regulated Work with vulnerable children and/or protected adults, as specified in the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007.

All preferred candidates for posts carrying out regulated work with these groups are required to become a PVG Scheme member, or undergo a PVG Scheme update if they are already a member, prior to any formal offer of employment being made by East Lothian Council.
