East Renfrewshire’s Educational Psychology Service is looking for a suitable candidate to join our Learn Well Service as a Family Support Worker. This post is temporary until March 2025 in line with the Whole Family Wellbeing Fund.
The successful candidate will work under the direction of our Educational Psychology Service to support the families of children and young people with varying needs that are impacting on their wellbeing, often resulting in Emotionally Based School Absence.
Our Learn Well Service comprises a Teacher, Pupil Support Assistant and Project Workers from Children 1st. The Family Support Worker will work effectively within this team and be an active participant in the process of assessing the needs and outcome required for individuals, placing children and young people’s best interests at the heart of decision-making. This will mean promoting positive, nurturing relationships with children and young people, encouraging and supporting their engagement in learning, and helping to provide a range of positive experiences that will support their wellbeing. Your role in this will involve offering direct support and advice for families, and developing strong working partnerships through parental / carer engagement and empowerment.
A range of casework and administrative duties will also form part of your remit. You must be literate and numerate, have excellent interpersonal skills and a particular ability to relate to children, young people and families, with insight into why attendance and engagement in learning can become a challenge for some young people. You should be willing to give practical and emotional assistance to children, young people and families where necessary, be able to work independently with professional integrity, and undertake relevant training to provide the right supports for families of children and young people who are accessing the service. This will include training in autism spectrum conditions and trauma informed practice. The successful applicant will be required to work flexibly across different locations in East Renfrewshire in response to the needs of our Learn Well Service users, however a main hub base is in development within the Giffnock area.
