Applications are invited for this is exciting opportunity as an Area Lighting Engineer, to lead the Street Lighting team within the Roads Service of Falkirk Council.

The role involves the organisation and planning of all operations relating to street lighting, including the management and control of the street lighting maintenance budgets and Capital works programmes. You will be first point of contact for Elected Members, members of the public and local organisations for all street lighting matters within the Falkirk Council Area, including asset management and maintenance of the existing lighting stock, installation of new lighting, and, maintenance of asset inventory records.

You will have a degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent. Ideally you will have a Postgraduate qualification in Management or Team Leading or equivalent and have Membership of the Institution of Lighting Engineers.  You will have commercial and financial acumen with a solid understanding of commercial and contractual principles as well as a focus on Health and Safety matters.  Experience of working at a senior level in a local government Roads direct labour environment is essential as is the ability to manage and motivate employees and foster good employee relations.  

The provision of this service is a high profile matter and attracts public scrutiny at all times.  The service is therefore required to be flexible, innovative and reactive to public demands and pressures as the effectiveness of service delivery can affect the public’s confidence in the provision of Council Services.
