Our Graduate Scheme is designed to give you a positive start to your career in local government.  You will be mainly based in the Energy and Climate Change team in Falkirk Stadium but as a Hybrid Worker will also work from home.

The role provides an exciting opportunity to work within a dynamic team driving forward Falkirk Council's net zero ambitions. The role will be wide ranging covering aspects of energy and climate change to give a broad overview and how they are interlinked.

You will provide support and assistance to the Energy and Climate Change team and will be required to:

  • Support the lead energy officer in the validation and payment of all non-domestic estate utility invoices using systems link energy management software.
  • Work with utility suppliers to resolve any billing issues, and lead on AMR installation and replacement programme across the council’s estate.
  • Monitor energy consumption across the council’s estate, investigating any overconsumption or anomalies which are discovered on site.
  • Support the lead energy officer in the project management of several energy efficiency improvement projects, including zero direct emissions heating systems, building fabric improvements, and LED lighting upgrades.
  • Support the lead energy officer in the identification of energy/carbon saving measures across the council’s estate.
  • Assist with the delivery of the Council's Local Heat and Energy Efficiency Strategy
  • Assist in the delivery, through partnership working, compliance with Public Bodies Duties as defined in the Climate Change Scotland Act 2009 and associated initiatives.
  • Support the upkeep of the Council's Climate Change projects register.
  • Support deliver of the Council's Carbon Literacy Training

You will have an HND or above in Environmental Science or other Energy related degree.

This could be gained through volunteering, internships or student honours projects as well as from previous employment. 

For our graduate scheme, it’s desirable for you to have graduated in the last 2 years.  If you meet any of the additional desirable criteria below your application will be given priority:

  • Currently unemployed/employed for less than 16 hours per week
  • Not working in the professional area you are applying for

You will sometimes be required to travel to sites or meetings at other premises and in connection with work activities. A full driving licence is desirable (Pool cars are available).
