Our Graduate Scheme is designed to give you a positive start to your career in local government.  You will be mainly based in the Library Services Team working across Falkirk but as a Hybrid Worker will also occasionally work from home.

With an HND or above in Library and Information Studies or other related subject, you will support the further development of digital libraries, supporting people to access online services and technologies addressing digital exclusion.

This includes working directly with members of the public via drop-in sessions and workshops as well as supporting the further implementation of this approach across the library service, including upskilling staff and developing new projects.

Experience of delivering digital skills projects and implementing new projects would be advantageous as well as great people skills and customer service experience.

This role will involve spending time in each of our 8 public libraries to

  • set up a programme of digital skills sessions
  • promote these sessions to the public and via other Council services and partners
  • deliver sessions for the public
  • collate feedback on the success of these session and modify the programme to meet developing needs
  • support existing libraries staff to continue this approach at the end of the 2-year post

We look for core skills for all our graduate posts which are:

  • Good written and spoken communication skills
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Organisation skills
  • Project management experience
  • Report writing experience
  • Team working experience
  • Computer skills including use of Microsoft 365
  • Ability to use your initiative and organise your own workload

This could be gained through volunteering, internships or student honours projects as well as from previous employment. 

We’ll also be looking for you to have Digital skills, ideally including experience of supporting others to access online services.

For our graduate scheme, it’s desirable for you to have graduated in the last 2 years.  If you meet any of the additional desirable criteria below your application will be given priority:

  • Care Experienced
  • Live in Falkirk Council area
  • Currently unemployed/employed for less than 16 hours per week
  • Not working in the professional area you are applying for
