Our Principal Teachers support senior leaders in creating and maintaining a positive ethos of high ambition, equity and excellence for all.

We require our Principal Teachers to be highly skilled practitioners who are committed to delivering the very best learning and teaching experiences for children and young people across all stages of the primary school.

Demonstrating knowledge and understanding of current and effective pedagogical approaches and of the national and local developments in the primary curriculum, our Principal Teachers work effectively alongside practitioners at all levels to lead improvements linked to school priorities.

Our Principal Teachers are highly committed to their own and others’ continuous professional learning and development, and, they possess a high level of professional integrity and drive.

The Principal Teacher at St Mary’s is a core member of the school’s leadership team and will deputise in the absence of the Headteacher.

As Principal Teacher in a Catholic School they will have the responsibility to actively promote the distinctive values of Catholic education. They will support the Headteacher in fostering a community of faith and learning rooted in Gospel Values, social justice and the teachings of the Catholic Church. In line with the Charter for Catholic Schools in Scotland they will contribute to the spiritual life of the school, uphold the moral and faith tradition of the Church, promote partnership with parents as first educators, and ensure that all aspects of school life reflect the mission of developing the whole person in faith and excellence. They will hold the Catholic Teaching Certificate.

The Principal Teacher at St Mary’s will:

  • Have leadership and operational management of Nursery class.
  • Have Strategic leadership of an area of the School Improvement Plan
  • Deputise in the absence of the headteacher.
  • Have responsibility for carrying out Quality Assurance across the school as part of the leadership team.
  • Teach Sacramental Classes and lead assemblies upholding the Catholic ethos of the school at all times.

Expressions of interest are invited from suitably qualified and experienced teachers who meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Acting PT / DHT who have been in post for 23 months or more; or,
  • Are in receipt of salary conservation as a result of acting PT/DHT arrangements ending.
  • Have the Catholic Teachers Certificate

Interview & Selection

Interviews for the post will be held on 2nd June In St Mary’s Primary.

Successful applicants will be sent a presentation task to prepare in advance of the interview to share with the panel. This will be followed by 4 set interview questions.
