We want your future to become part of ours.
Falkirk Council is a council of the future. A community of over 7,000 employees striving to create better lives for all our residents.
Come join us.
Could you be our next Property Inspector (Mechanical) within our Maintenance team?
In this role you will inspect, assess and manage the maintenance and repair of mechanical systems across a varied property portfolio, carrying out both reactive and planned inspections to identify and prioritise works. You will liaise with contractors and stakeholders to ensure repairs are delivered safely, efficiently and to a high standard, while monitoring quality, verifying costs and ensuring value for money. You will also contribute to asset management planning, support minor works and capital projects, and respond to emergency situations, including participation in an out-of-hours rota. Throughout, you will ensure full compliance with relevant legislation and safety standards, maintain accurate records and deliver a professional, customer-focused service.
What we are looking for…
The ideal person for this role will be a highly motivated and experienced Mechanical Property Inspector who can deliver a professional, customer-focused service across a diverse non-housing property portfolio. You will bring strong technical knowledge of mechanical services, alongside the ability to assess, prioritise and manage maintenance and repair requirements to a high standard. A proactive approach is essential, with the confidence to independently plan your workload, respond to emergencies, and balance competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
You will have a solid background in the mechanical services sector, ideally supported by an HNC (or equivalent) in a construction services-related discipline and at least five years’ relevant experience. You will demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills, complemented by excellent attention to detail and report-writing ability. A sound understanding of current legislation and best practice is key, including Building Regulations, Health and Safety requirements, Gas Safe regulations, Legionella control, and wider compliance standards.
We are looking for someone who can build effective working relationships with colleagues, contractors and premises managers, ensuring that works are clearly specified, well-managed and completed to a high standard. You will be confident in issuing instructions, monitoring performance, verifying costs and ensuring value for money, while also contributing to planned maintenance strategies and capital projects. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential, along with a commitment to delivering high-quality outcomes for service users.
Above all, you will be a team player who demonstrates sound professional judgement, initiative and integrity in everything you do. You will share our commitment to safety, quality and continuous improvement, maintaining up-to-date knowledge of legislation and contributing positively to a culture that reflects our core values of being responsive, innovative, trusted and ambitious.
Sounds like you? Great.
