Job Advert

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full-time permanent Social Worker role, to join our busy Family Placement Team. The team is responsible for recruiting, assessing and supporting our fostering families and adopters.

In line with Falkirk Councils Closer To Home Strategy and The Promise we have been working hard to shine a light on our kinship families in Falkirk and we have developed a team of workers who focus on assessing and supporting our kinship families. This post, whilst part of the wider Family Placement Team, will have a focus on kinship and will be managed by our Kinship Assistant Team manager.

Whilst experience and knowledge of frontline children and families services is important, we would want you to have a particular interest in Kinship, recognising its importance to the service and to the families, children and young people we work with.

Falkirk Council: Our Closer to Home strategy focusses on improving outcomes for our children and young people and working in partnership to provide quality sustainable services. Our frontline teams are at the forefront of this approach, with relationship and strength-based practice at their core.

In this rewarding and challenging key role, you would be provided with regular, high-quality support and supervision and developmental opportunities. If you are a newly qualified social worker, we have a specific induction process and peer support group that will support you through your first 12months of qualifying.

This is a full-time post and at this time we would not be able to recruit to job-share or part-time working hours. Falkirk Council do offer a hybrid working arrangement of home/office. We are also open to looking at flexible ways of working including compressed hour arrangements, to promote a healthy work/life balance.

We need you to:

  • Operate as part of a children and families social work service
  • Provide a range of social work services in line with the relevant legislation
  • Work in a mobile and flexible manner as part of a team
  • Be willing to occasionally work after hours to facilitate our kinship support groups.
  • Work to meet deadlines
  • Use professional judgement and initiative
  • Share and analyse information in accordance with Data Protection and childcare legislation
  • Adhere to the SSSC code of conduct.

If you think you have what it takes to join us, please contact Sharon McCafferty, Assistant Team Manager via email; Sharon.McCafferty@falkirk.gov.uk or phone 01324 506070 for an informal discussion.

It is essential that you hold a DipSw or equivalent social work qualification and are registered with the SSSC.

If you are the successful candidate, you will be required to gain/maintain PVG scheme membership, the cost of which will be met by the preferred candidate.

Interviews will be held week beginning 13th April 2026.
