An exciting opportunity has arisen for an ICT Support Engineer within Infrastructure, Collaboration & Technology, based in the Foundry, Falkirk.

In this role as an ICT Support Engineer at Falkirk Council, you will join the Cyber Security arm of the Enterprise Network & Cyber Security team.

Our Cyber Security arm protects the Council from digital threats - like hackers, viruses, and scams - by keeping computers, data, and systems safe. Think of us as digital security guards who watch for danger, stop attacks, and keep everyone using technology safely.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and Maintain Cyber Security Documentation

Create, review, and update cyber security policies, standards, procedures, technical documentation, and operational runbooks to ensure compliance, support service delivery, and maintain an accurate security knowledge base.

  • Manage Security Patch Deployment

Ensure Council devices, servers, and systems remain protected by planning, testing, and deploying security updates and patches in a timely manner.

  • Administer Firewall Rules and Security Policies

Design, implement, and maintain firewall configurations and security controls to protect Council networks, systems, and data from unauthorised access.

  • Monitor and Enhance Email Security

Support and maintain email security solutions to identify, investigate, and mitigate phishing attempts, malware, and other email-based threats.

  • Manage Web and Internet Security Controls

Configure and maintain web filtering technologies to reduce exposure to malicious websites and ensure safe and compliant internet usage.

  • Conduct Vulnerability Management Activities

Perform regular vulnerability scanning and risk assessments across servers, endpoints, and infrastructure, ensuring identified weaknesses are remediated appropriately.

  • Support Secure Remote Access Services

Implement and maintain secure remote access solutions, enabling employees to work effectively while protecting Council information and systems.

  • Develop and Maintain Identity and Access Security Standards

Contribute to the development, implementation, and enforcement of password, authentication, and access management policies in line with security best practices.

  • Deliver Security Awareness and Training Programmes

Provide cyber security guidance, awareness campaigns, and training sessions to help employees recognise and respond appropriately to cyber threats.

You should ideally be educated to a degree level, with extensive IT experience. You will have highly developed communication skills and experience in customer and supplier management.
