Falkirk Children’s Services is seeking a dedicated Support for Learning Assistant (Visual Support) to join the team at Bo’ness Academy. This role is key to ensuring continuity of support for pupils with visual impairment, enabling full access to learning and promoting inclusion across the school.

You will work closely with teaching staff and the Additional Support Needs (ASN) team to provide tailored assistance, adapt resources, and support specialist programmes such as Braille. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference in a young person’s educational journey.

  • Provide practical assistance to teachers and pupils, ensuring inclusion for learners with visual impairment.
  • Support day-to-day learning activities, including reading, scribing, and implementing specialist programmes (Braille, assistive technology).
  • Adapt and create resources to meet individual needs.
  • Assist with mobility and safety within the school environment, promoting positive interaction with peers.
  • Supervise pupils during transitions, breaks, and excursions.
  • Maintain accurate records and provide clerical support as required. Communicate effectively with staff, parents, and external agencies when necessary.

At the Advanced level you will be providing teacher and pupil support to enhance pupil achievement. This will include working with pupils of all ages and abilities in a secondary school setting. As required at advanced level, you will also undertake a wide range of whole school support activities and pupil support with regards to the general supervision, safety, care and wellbeing of the pupils which could include covering our medical provision. You will also be required to carry out Administrative tasks.

Good communication and organisational skills are required and you should enjoy working as part of a team. You should be dynamic, enthusiastic and enjoy working with young people. You should have some experience of working with young people, ideally in an educational setting. Successful candidates must be prepared to undertake training in Manual Handling and First Aid should you not have this.

You will work 13.75 hour per week.  The working hours will be discussed at interview and negotiated prior to starting. They will be on a term time basis.
