Are you passionate about helping others learn to swim and looking to begin your journey as a swim teacher, if so this is a fantastic opportunity to get involved.

We're currently recruiting Swimming Teachers to deliver The Scottish Swimming National Framework across the Falkirk area.

You’ll have access to a fully funded SSTQ (Scottish Swimming Teacher Qualification) — giving you everything you need to start teaching with confidence.

Course Expectations

The SSTQ course combines course theory and practical, self learning and course work, shadowing in our current programme and regular communication with course tutor and swimming development team

Commitment to Training Requirements

Candidates are expected to:

  • Attend all scheduled training days, workshops, and assessments
  • Complete precourse reading, online modules, and e-learning as required‑course reading, online modules,
  • Meet deadlines for assignments, reflections, and logbook entries
  • Be punctual, prepared, and engaged in each session

Practical Teaching Experience

Candidates will need to:

  • Complete the required number of direct teaching hours (Minimum of 10 hours shadowing in FC swim programme to cover all aspects of programme ( preschool, learn to swim, adults and ASN)
  • Work alongside experienced swim teachers during actual swimming lessons.
  • Demonstrate increasing independence as skills develop
  • Apply feedback from mentors and assessors

Professional Conduct

Candidates should:

  • Communicate respectfully with learners, families, and colleagues
  • Maintain appropriate boundaries, safeguarding awareness, and confidentiality
  • Work effectively as part of a teaching team

Repayment Cost of Course

Please note that Falkirk Council may seek repayment of costs if you do not complete the qualification, leave the Council’s service while undertaking the qualification, leave the Council’s service within 12 months of completing the qualification or leave the Council’s service within 13–24 months of completing the qualification.

Employees will be made aware of the repayment request at the time of application.
