Job Advert

Are you an entrepreneurially minded leader with a passion for the circular economy? Falkirk Council’s Waste Operations team is looking for a dynamic Waste Services Officer to drive efficiency, compliance, and commercial value across our recycling centres.

The Role: Why it Matters

This isn't just about managing waste; it’s about maximising resources. You will be the "boots on the ground" leader responsible for our Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRC). You will make expert decisions that impact our service today and shape our strategic recycling goals for tomorrow.

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead & Optimise: Allocate staff, high-tech plant machinery, and resources to ensure our sites run like clockwork.
  • Commercial Strategy: Use your "entrepreneurial mindset" to ensure segregated materials are managed to attain maximum market value.
  • Compliance Champion: Work alongside the Waste Coordinator to ensure we stay ahead of waste management licensing and environmental consents.
  • Operational Excellence: Oversee the transfer of materials, manage external contractor relationships, and handle financial controls/invoicing with precision.
  • Safety First: Ensure every operation meets the highest Health, Safety, and Environmental standards.

Are You the Perfect Fit?

We are looking for someone who doesn't just follow a process but looks for ways to improve it. You should have:

  • Proven Experience: A background in production, recycling, or operations management.
  • Expert Judgment: The ability to make critical, short-term operational decisions under pressure.
  • Flexibility: A "can-do" attitude—while you'll typically work Monday to Friday, you’re ready to adapt to shift patterns to keep the service moving.
  • Communication Skills: The ability to lead a diverse team and manage external stakeholders effectively.

You will work 37 Hours (Typical Monday–Friday, with flexible shift options available)

Please note within your application form your experience managing the day-to-day operation of waste or recycling facilities. In your answer, explain how you have allocated staff and resources, ensured compliance with health, safety, environmental and licensing requirements, and dealt with operational issues or service pressures.

Please also provide an example of how you have improved the efficiency, value, or performance of a waste or recycling service. This could include maximising recycling income, managing contractors, controlling costs, or making recommendations that improved service delivery.

Ready to make an impact?

If you are ready to take on a role that combines environmental responsibility with commercial management, we want to hear from you.
