Job Details
Start date for this position is Monday 4 August 2025 (non-negotiable)
First Year Apprentices working at Bankhead Central receive an annual unsocial payment due to the 4 on 4 off working pattern (£1405) Temporary until 3rd August 2029
These vacancies are restricted to applicants who live in Fife. You must be aged between 16 and 24 on or by the specified start date.
Alternatively successful applicants can start at 15 years old however your 16th birthday must be by 30th September 2025. A School Leavers Form and National Insurance number will be required. If you are under 16 and don’t have a National Insurance number, email BS.Apprenticeships@fife.gov.uk and you will be given a temporary number to enable you to complete your application.

You will work under supervision on all aspects of repair and maintenance of all Fife Council vehicles.
Fife Council Environment & Building Services has a Respiratory Protective Equipment policy. The policy requires personnel working in environments where inhalation of substances harmful to health will mean a requirement to wear tight fitting protective equipment (examples of which are disposable masks) therefore, personnel must undertake a face fitting, this will require the wearer to meet regulatory requirements as per HSG 53 Respiratory Equipment at Work (HSE Guidance).
You will be working under the direct instruction of a workshop co-ordinator or alone, to develop the skills and knowledge for the chosen trade whilst demonstrating an enthusiasm and willingness to achieve a high degree of competence.

The Person
Applicants should have achieved or be expecting to achieve by August 2025:
3 National 4’s, or 3 Standard Grades at general level 3 or above to include English, Maths and a practical craft skill or IT related subject, or to be able to demonstrate other relevant experience in the motor vehicle industry.
And/or an NC, SVQ1 or an NPA in the relevant motor vehicle trade will be considered as alternative qualifications in line with SCQF Matrix, for more information please refer to www.scqf.org.uk.
Applicants must be able to demonstrate the ability to achieve SVQ level 3 (SCQF Level 6). You may be required to travel out with Fife to attend College to achieve this qualification.
You will have an appreciation of the Fleet Services operational activities and have knowledge of tasks undertaken by a Mechanic. You will have the ability to follow instructions and be able to work in a workshop environment and deal with the demands of the job.
