Multisystemic therapy (MST) is an intensive family and community-based intervention that targets the multiple causes of antisocial behaviour in young people. MST aims to prevent out of home placements or reunification to family home.

MST adopts a social-ecological approach to understanding problematic behaviours in young people. Viewing the individual as being surrounded by a network of interconnected systems that include the young person themselves, their family as well as their peer group, school and wider neighbourhood.

In MST, parents and caregivers are viewed as the main instigators of change in the young person. Therefore, the ultimate goal of MST is to empower the family to take responsibility for making and maintaining positive changes in the young person’s behaviour.

We are looking for a practitioner with significant experience of working effectively with young people and families with multiple problems and challenging behaviours. You will be able to evidence considerable success in having engaged hard to reach families and have experience in delivering therapeutic interventions. You will have strong interpersonal and communication skills, be able to remain calm with ability to defuse difficult and sometimes volatile situations.

  • To carry a small, specialist caseload of children & families with complex and severe problems.
  • As an independent practitioner to have accountability and responsibility for your own caseload under the supervision of the Multisystemic Therapy (MST) Supervisor/Programme Manager, selecting from a range of empirically based specialist therapeutic interventions.

The Person

  • Knowledge and experience of family systems, social ecological and cognitive behavioural therapy theories and their application .
  • Workers new to role must gain registration with the relevant regulatory body within six months of start date.
  • Ability to travel within Fife.
