This is an excellent opportunity to take the next step in your career. We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual with relevant Street Lighting experience, preferably gained within a local authority environment, to join our Roads and Lighting Maintenance Team as a Technician Engineer.

Reporting to the Lead Consultant (Maintenance Operations), you will play a key role within the Maintenance Unit of the Roads and Transportation Service. The post is responsible for supporting the efficient organisation and delivery of the technical and operational requirements of the Street Lighting Maintenance Team.

You will coordinate team activities and work closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure that street lighting maintenance and related services are delivered in accordance with statutory requirements, prescribed standards and Council policies. This customer-focused role is responsible for managing street lighting faults, service requests and emergency responses across Fife, with a strong emphasis on service delivery, quality, efficiency and customer care to support the safe and reliable operation of the roads lighting network.

You will provide technical advice on the maintenance of street lighting, traffic signals, variable message signs (VMS) and illuminated traffic signs, together with supporting design, project delivery and construction monitoring services.

The role is responsible for maintaining, managing and interrogating relevant asset and maintenance management systems, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of network data and inventory records.

You will use asset and performance data to support the effective management and maintenance of the roads lighting network, identifying improvement opportunities and developing maintenance programmes and service initiatives.

Due to the collaborative nature of the work, the majority of the role will be office-based at Bankhead Central, Glenrothes, although there is some opportunity for hybrid working.

This is a permanent position with a salary at Single Status Grade FC7, with placement dependent on skills, knowledge, experience and qualifications.

Qualification, Registration and Skill Requirements

You should ideally be educated to SCQF Level 7, such as an HNC, SVQ Level 4, or an equivalent qualification, preferably in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering or a related discipline. However, consideration will also be given to candidates with significant relevant experience and a strong craft, trade or technical background in an electrical engineering-related field.

You should have experience in street lighting maintenance, including financial budget management and the coordination of resources associated with street lighting operations.

Strong communication skills are essential, with the ability to adapt your approach to a range of situations, including engagement with members of the public, colleagues and contractors.

You should be a motivated and reliable individual who can work effectively as part of a team while also demonstrating initiative and the ability to work independently.

You should have a good understanding of street lighting and/or roads maintenance procedures and documentation, together with a competent level of IT skills.
