About Us
City Building provides a range of repairs and maintenance, manufacturing, construction and refurbishment activities for Glasgow City Council and Wheatley Housing Group’s citizens and customers as well as other public, private and third sector organisations.
City Building operates both the largest construction craft apprenticeship programme in Scotland, and Royal Strathclyde Blindcraft Industries (RSBi), one of the largest supported manufacturing businesses in Europe, around 200 people, more than 50% of whom have a disability.
Our accreditations include, ISO45001, ISO 14001 and ISO 9001:2015. We currently hold Investors in Young People Platinum award, an award we are immensely proud of as it recognises our focus on investing in and growing a skilled staff base.
As a City Building employee, you’ll enjoy a competitive salary, excellent annual leave, and access to the Strathclyde Pension Fund. You will also benefit from wellbeing initiatives and discounted gym membership, supporting a positive and healthy work life balance.
About the Role
As a Surveyor within our Investment Team, you will play a key role in delivering a wide range of investment projects across kitchens, bathrooms, windows, doors and associated refurbishment works. Working closely with customers, clients, contractors and internal colleagues, you will undertake property surveys, produce accurate drawings and layouts, and ensure design and installation requirements are delivered to a high standard.
Reporting to the Investment Manager, you will attend site appointments, prepare technical documentation, and support the successful progression of kitchen and window replacement projects from survey through to manufacture and installation. Once surveys are complete, you will be responsible for translating them into City Building’s internal design format before submitting them to RSBI (Royal Strathclyde Blindcraft Industries) for the manufacture of bespoke kitchens and/or windows.
You will provide excellent customer service, maintain accurate records, and work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and on time. Flexibility is essential, as you may be required to support a variety of investment programmes as business priorities evolve.
What You Will Bring
You will preferably have a joinery background with experience in window and door replacement, kitchen and bathroom renewals, and general building refurbishment projects. You will have proven experience carrying out property surveys and a strong understanding of surveying practices, technical drawings and layouts.
You will have excellent communication, interpersonal and analytical skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with customers, clients and colleagues. You will be highly organised, possess strong IT skills, and be able to effectively manage competing priorities while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
You will demonstrate a commitment to delivering excellent customer service, work effectively on your own initiative and as part of a team, and be adaptable to changing business needs.
A full driving licence is essential for this role. A HNC in Construction Management or Building Surveying or equivalent is desirable.
