Are you interested in working for the largest local authority in Scotland, in partnership with the NHS, to help improve the health and wellbeing of our community? Then, you are in the right place!

The Promise Participation Workers will work collaboratively to engage with care experienced children, young people and their families, ensuring their voices shape how Glasgow’s children’s services learn, improve and deliver support. Central to this role is building strong, positive and trusting relationships with partners across the city so that the lived experiences of young people directly influence what we do well and where change is needed.

The postholder will support children and young people to take an active role in designing services, contributing to plans, and holding the organisation to account. They will help Glasgow HSCP deliver The Promise by developing and leading high quality participation activities that empower care experienced young people to influence decisions that affect their lives.

A key responsibility will be coordinating youth voice structures, including the Young People’s Advisory Group and the Young Champs, and embedding a culture of meaningful participation across children’s services. This requires strong group work skills, the ability to engage with young people who have diverse needs and experiences, and a commitment to trauma informed, relational practice.

As part of the Promise Participation role, we are seeking someone to lead on areas focussing on parental peer support mentoring, helping families feel confident, informed and supported. Candidates may bring lived expertise and/or extensive experience of supporting families, using this insight to offer empathetic one to-one support, help parents navigate children’s services processes, and empower them to participate fully in decisions about their children. The role involves building trusting relationships, facilitating peer led groups, and creating safe spaces where parents can share experiences, reduce isolation and strengthen resilience. This work is central to Glasgow’s commitment to relational, strengths based and inclusive practice. Working alongside social workers, early help teams, schools and community partners, the postholder will act as a bridge between parents, young people and professionals, ensuring families feel heard, respected and able to access the right support at the right time.

Glasgow is committed to keeping The Promise. For those who are care experienced, we want them to stay connected to the people who matter to them, feel cared for and loved, and be supported by adults who are committed to doing their very best. We want children, young people and families to tell us what we need to do to keep Glasgow’s Promise — to have their voices heard, make decisions together and shape services together. The Promise Participation Workers will work as a team, connecting with partners across the city to ensure that the voices of care experienced children and young people guide our understanding of what is working and what must improve. They will support young people to be involved in designing services, contributing to plans and holding us to account.

We are seeking people who are passionate about children, young people and families; who can listen deeply, communicate effectively, and represent the views of others professionally across a range of forums. The role requires the ability to work collaboratively within a motivated and values driven team, while also being confident working independently on projects.

Strong written skills are important, as the postholder will represent Glasgow’s Promise on social media, contribute to our website, and prepare reports for a range of audiences.

Given the nature of the work, candidates must be able to work in a trauma informed way and recognise the emotional impact that supporting care experienced young people and families can have. Emotional resilience, reflective practice and appropriate self care are essential, as the role requires someone who can remain grounded, compassionate and professional.

Membership of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme is essential on taking up appointment. Please note successful candidates for the above role will be required to pay for their PVG Membership/or Scheme Checks.

These roles are excepted under Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exclusions and Exceptions) (Scotland) Order 2013 (as amended).

Interviews will likely take place week commencing 6th July 2026.

If you would like to find out more about the role before applying, you can contact: Elaine Gillespie, Team Leader on 07717 681171 or by email: elaine.gillespie@glasgow.gov.uk
