Job Description
Role – Social Care Worker (Continuing Care and After Care Children's Services)
Location – GCHSCP, Ladywell Business Centre, 94 Duke Street G4 0UW
Contract Status – Temporary, up to December 2026
Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership (GCHSCP) has a dedicated central team of Social Workers and Social Care Workers who support young people moving on from care by providing training opportunities and accommodation options that best meet their needs.
We have exciting new posts to work with partners to deliver a one-year ‘test and learn’ pilot to embed Ask and Act duties focusing on three overlapping groups at risk of homelessness at critical transition points:
1. Families with children on the edge of care
2. Young people with care experience moving towards a settled tenancy for the first time
3. Young people with care experience and complex needs at higher risk of homelessness (including those with addiction, mental health difficulties, neurodiversity, and unaccompanied asylum-seeking children)
The pilot aims to trial changes within existing services by building capacity to test different ways of working that strengthen prevention practice, bolster cross-sector collaboration raising awareness of Ask and Act duties, centre lived experience, and contribute to (and draw upon) national learning around the Care Leavers Improving Housing Pathway. These posts will be involved in development and delivery of:
• Building capacity within the existing Glasgow Intensive Family Support Service (GIFSS) to test different ways of providing support to vulnerable families at elevated risk of homelessness
• Trial new ways of working as part of the existing Care Leavers Housing Protocol, by increasing capacity within the Continuing Care and Aftercare Service to strengthen relationships and collaborative working with Registered Social Landlords (RSLs)
• Reviewing and updating Ask and Act duties within Social Work, Education and Third Sector
You will be part of a small team implementing these changes and will be supported by a SeniorHomeless Worker to achieve this.
Membership of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme is essential on taking up appointment. Please note successful candidates for the above role will be required to pay for their PVG Membership/or Scheme Checks.
These roles are excepted under Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exclusions and Exceptions) (Scotland) Order 2013 (as amended).
Interviews will take place week commencing 16th February.
If you would like to find out more about the role before applying, you can contact: Linda Haggarty, Service Manager, Central Continuing Care and Aftercare Services, on 07880051636 or by email: LindaSW.Haggerty@glasgow.gov.uk
