Glasgow is a thriving and vibrant city with excellent opportunities to join us and contribute towards helping all our neighbourhoods flourish. The Glasgow Health and Social Care Partnership (GCHSCP) is on a journey to radically change the way in which Social Work delivers support and services.
An exciting opportunity has now arisen for 1 x full time and 2 x part time Qualified Social Workers to join our Emergency Out of Hours Social Work Service, (Glasgow & Partners Emergency Social Work Service, G&PESWS). This is the largest out of hours social work service in Scotland. The service covers the six local authorities within the Greater Glasgow & Clyde Health Board area, these are Glasgow, East Dunbartonshire, West Dunbartonshire, East Renfrewshire, Renfrewshire and Inverclyde.
G&PESWS cover all care groups and provide a Mental Health Officer service, adult welfare and protection and child welfare and protection. You will be a qualified social worker with significant experience in child protection. You must be able to demonstrate that you can work calmly in a crisis, in a fast paced environment. You must have excellent communication and written skills, be competent on the telephone and in liaising with partners, referrers and service users. Working in the Out of Hours is unique and requires you to have excellent engagement and negotiation skills. While this post is for an experienced child protection worker the role overall is a generic one and you will be working across all care groups.
Applicants must either possess a Degree / Diploma in Social Work (or Social Work equivalent). Please refer to the Person Specification for full details of the required qualifications, skills, knowledge and competencies that are required for the above role. A formal Child Protection qualification is advantageous.
Membership of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme is essential on taking up appointment. Please note successful candidates for the above role will be required to pay for their PVG Membership/or Scheme Checks.
Registration to the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) is an essential requirement for this role. You must either be already registered or have applied within 3 months and be registered within 6 months from your start date. Please note as part of the local government pay deal, local authority staff are currently not required to pay SSSC fees.
These roles are excepted under Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exclusions and Exceptions) (Scotland) Order 2013 (as amended).
Interviews are likely to take place on 3rd or 4th June 2025.
If you would like to find out more about the role before applying, you can contact Karen Donoghue, Service Manager by email: Karen.donoghue@glasgow.gov.uk
