Glasgow Life is looking for an Archives Assistant who will support the delivery of public services within the City Archives which is responsible for 850 years of the City's history. The postholder will also assist in the efficient management of the archive storage and comply with all policies and guidelines.
As an Archives Assistant, you will be an integral part of the team by supporting the delivery of public services. You will report to the City Archives and Records Manager and will work alongside the City Archives and Records team.
If you’re interested in joining us as an Archives Assistant you’ll need to:
• Support the delivery of frontline services, assisting with search room processes, including managing and undertaking requests for standard photocopying and large plan copies from customers; taking enquiries by phone; and providing search room cover at lunch/teas, or as required.
• Responsible for logging, researching and replying to the large quantity of burial/cremation enquiries
• Assist with enquiries to the department responsible for requests for copy deeds, 17th-20th century, from Legal Services (GCC), legal firms and other agencies; burial and cremation records.
• Assist with the recording of performance management information
• Deputise, as required at Mitchell Venue Management meetings
• Undertake cash handling; processing charges and arranging invoices; and keeping records of all expenditure
• Responsible for the maintenance of the administrative records of the department and their transfer to the records management system
• Logging and assigning enquiries to appropriate staff members

Our office is within the Mitchell Library and has great links to public transport and has free parking within the complex.
This role requires working on 1 Saturday a month (with Friday off) and 11 to 7 on Tuesdays twice a month.
