Job Description

Glasgow Life is looking for an Economic Analyst to join us on a permanent full-time contract. As an Economic Analyst you will join our in-demand Business Improvement team. You will be part of the Business and Strategy team within our Corporate Services, which supports all services across Glasgow Life.

As an Economic Analyst, you will join Corporate Services. This includes Marketing and Communications, Business and Strategy, Infrastructure, Finance, HR, Retail, Procurement, and Development. These teams undertake a wide range of roles to keep Glasgow Life operating smoothly as a first-rate charity. From creating compelling messages about our work to providing insights that help shape strategies. They also oversee the operation of over 100 venues across the city, account for millions of pounds, support our staff, and bring income into the charity through our shops.

The role
As an Economic Analyst you’ll be an integral part of the team by providing a range of economic development functions including data analysis, impact modelling and policy research.
You will undertake and contribute to a wide range of:
• Scenario planning/modelling activities
• Economic analysis and profiling activities
• Project and programme appraisal and evaluation activities
• Business cases development activities (including creating logic models and evaluation plans, cost-benefit analysis, and economic impact assessment)
• Primary and secondary research activities (including direct delivery and commissioning)
• Analysis and evaluation of information to provide reporting, evidence-based recommendations, and support for services to achieve organisational objectives and defined performance measures.
• Interrogation of data and information to ensure accuracy and consistency.
• Comparison and benchmarking including representing Glasgow Life at benchmarking activities.
• Collaboration with business partners across the organisation to deliver business improvements.
The Economic Analyst will report to Andrew Ferguson, Senior Business Analyst, working alongside an established team.
The candidate
If you’re interested in joining us as a Economic Analyst you’ll need:
• To be educated to degree level in an Economics or related discipline, or proven applied experience
• High level presentation and communication skills in written and spoken English
• High level of data handling and analysis skills
• The ability to work to tight deadlines
• Experience in economic development data analysis
• Understanding of econometrics/quantitative analysis
• Ability to present analyses results, recommendations, and professional advice in clear and accessible formats
• Be highly proficient in Excel
• Have working knowledge of relevant computer software and IT packages such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel & PowerPoint)
• Understanding of national, regional and local economic policy/context
• Understanding of online sources of economic information
• Understanding of putting theory into practice
• A flexible approach to the needs of the department and an awareness of the Council’s objectives

Some of our roles are currently piloting hybrid working, with teams working between the office and home. Your line manager will agree these days with you. This balance enables you to continue much-needed collaborative working.
Our head office in Albion Street, Glasgow has great links to public transport and parking nearby.
The working hours are Monday to Friday, 09.00 to 17.00.
