Job Description

Glasgow Life is looking for 2 Museum Technicians (Collections) to join us on a full-time, fixed term contract for a period up to 3 years, until October 2027.

As a Museum Technician (Collections) you’ll be joining our Glasgow Life Museums team working on this exciting transformational project of the Peoples Palace and Winter Gardens. The project will develop and create a community-led museum to become of one of the world’s most socially engaged and internationally significant local museums. With Glasgow’s social history at its heart, we will reintegrate the glasshouse and museum, to create a dynamic museum offer with new flexible space and facilities that meet audience needs. The building will be restored, will be more environmentally sustainable and help put the east end of Glasgow more on the tourist map. The role
As a Museum Technician (Collections) you’ll be an integral part of the team supporting the delivery of the Peoples Palace and Winter Gardens project. Duties will include:
- Handling objects appropriately, liaising with Curators, Conservators, and other Museum Professionals to ensure that all necessary action is taken to ensure their safety.
- Moving and packing of objects in store and on location as required in accordance with handling procedures, using specialist handling equipment.
- Safe loading/transporting and driving of museum vehicles ensuring that all relevant procedures for object and material movement are adhered to.
The candidate
If you’re interested in joining us as a Museum Technician (Collections) you’ll need:
- Qualification in related subject or relevant experience
- Experience of handling, moving, packing storing and transporting museum objects
- Evidence of awareness of collections care requirements
- Experience of Lifting and Handling and ability to assess equipment necessary and appropriate use
- To demonstrate ability to work as part of a team, to be proactive, assess work requirements and be able to use initiative.

Our city-wide contracts mean you will be flexible to work in any of our locations. This post is city wide however your primary location will be Glasgow Museums Resource Centre (GMRC) with occasional working at other Glasgow Museums Venues. GMRC has great links to public transport and there is free parking in the venue carpark.
This role is working Monday – Friday from 08:00-16:00

A valid driving licence check is required for this position.

If offer is made to internal employee (Glasgow Life or Council Family), at the end of the temporary period, eligible employees will have a right to return to a role of their substantive grade within the council family as a minimum.
