Job Description

Glasgow Life is looking for qualified Swimming Teachers to join our team on a permanent part time basis. We offer flexible contracts between 8:40hrs (1 shift) and 22hrs (approx. 5 shifts) as well as bank positions across our range of swimming pools. As a Swimming Teacher, you will be part of a dedicated team responsible for delivering fun and exciting lessons to our Learn to Swim customers who range from Pre-School to Adults, Beginners to Improvers.
Our positions are city-wide meaning you could work in any of our venues delivering Swimming Lessons. Specifically, we are looking for teachers to deliver evening lessons in the North/Northwest of the City (Glasgow Club Maryhill and Glasgow Club Scotstoun). If a regular weekly shift pattern doesn’t suit you, we also offer BANK positions which offer greater flexibility to balance your swim teacher job alongside your studies/other commitments.

We offer a competitive salary ranging from £23,148.43 to £24,638.48 per year (pro rata to your individual contract) which equates to approx. £12.68 to £13.50 per hour. The more experience you have, the higher the hourly rate! You also have potential to earn more based on your individual working pattern and the optional to cover extra shifts.

The role
As a Swimming Teacher, you will be an invaluable part of the team by using your skills and knowledge to teach our members the invaluable life skill of swimming. You will report to the Swim Co-ordinators within our venues and work alongside an established team of teachers. Don’t worry if you are new to teaching and don't have a lot of experience; we can provide support from our Lead Teachers and Tutors who can help bring out the best in you! If you have the right aptitude and enthusiasm; we will work with you to make you the best teacher possible.

Membership of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups Scheme will be essential on taking up appointment. Please note successful candidates for the above position will be required to pay for their PVG Membership/or Scheme Checks.

The candidate
If you’re interested in joining us as a Swimming Teacher, you’ll need the following essentials:
• Scottish Swimming Teachers Qualification OR UKCC Level 1 OR UKCC L2 Swim Teachers Qualification
• Other qualifications may be considered if they are comparable to the above
• Experience/knowledge and enthusiasm of working with children ages 4yrs and above in a group environment
• Good communication skills and a flexible approach to work
• The ability to work evenings and weekends to meet the needs of our core programme

Our city-wide contracts mean you will be flexible to work in any of our locations. We currently operate our lessons across 7 pools in Glasgow; Scotstoun, Tollcross, Bellahouston, Springburn, Maryhill, Pollok and Gorbals.
This role is working predominately in the evening/weekends where our shifts are Monday to Friday 3:40-8pm, Saturday 8:40am-1pm and Sunday 8:40am-1pm and 3:40-8pm. We have some flexibility in these times so please speak to us if you are interested.
All our venues have great links to public transport and either free parking or parking nearby.
