Job Description
An opportunity has arisen within Neighbourhoods, Regeneration and Sustainability for 2 Analysts (Chemistry) to join our Scientific Services team on a permanent basis.

You will conduct testing on a wide variety of samples to ensure compliance with established specifications and regulatory requirements.
You will have experience of using both traditional and instrumental analytical chemistry techniques such as Triple quadrupole mass spectrometry coupled to gas chromatography and liquid chromatography.
The successful candidate will support the analytical chemistry areas of the laboratory which carry out testing on water and food products to specific standard operating procedures. You will implement testing protocols and standard operating procedures to ensure accuracy and reliability of test results. You will ensure all quality control procedures are followed in compliance with ISO17025. You will assist with the investigation of deviations, non-conformities, and help to identify the root causes of analysis issues. You will be experienced in the analysis and interpretation of data.
You must be enthusiastic and aware of chemical analysis trends, best practices, and regulatory changes impacting the laboratory. You will participate in method validation for new testing methods and technologies.
The Chemistry analyst will be responsible for ensuring that samples received in the laboratory are correctly recorded and processed to client requirements within the appropriate time frame. You will assist in maintaining the laboratory accreditation to ISO 17025 by maintaining laboratory equipment in accordance with the Quality System.
The ability to work on your own initiative and establish good relationships with other team members is essential and you must be capable of responding effectively to delegated responsibilities and working with minimum supervision.
Scientific Services provide a technical support team to the emergency services in Scotland on an on-call rota basis. The successful applicant will receive training to become a member of the team.
A minimum of an HNC/HND or equivalent qualification is essential for this role.
The successful candidate would be expected to continue to expand their knowledge and show an aptitude in acquiring new skills.

Contract Details
Weekly Hours: 35 hours
Work Pattern: Monday to Friday (30 hours contractual overtime per annum)
