Assistant Group Manager (Waste Disposal)

Job Description

Reporting to the Group Manager the post holder will be responsible for management of the city’s waste disposal and recycling operations while supporting the development and implementation of Glasgow’s Resource & Recycling strategy.

The post holders will undertake:
• Planning, management, and organising of internal and external resources (Staff & equipment) to ensure the efficient running of the service. 
• Management of the Council’s Waste Transfer Stations, Materials Recycling Facility, Household Waste Recycling Centres & associated haulage. 
• Ensuring that the city’s waste management facilities meets outputs and recycling targets while monitoring offtake contracts and maintenance schedules. 
• Planning, co-ordination, development, implementation and monitoring of change projects to support the City’s Resource & Recycling Strategy.
• Monitoring of the service performance and spend against KPI’s and budget.
• Oversee Waste Management Licencing for all relevant facilities.
• Ensuring that work practices, risk assessments, absence management and disciplinary procedures are in line with council Policy.
• Implement the appropriate level of governance in all work to ensure accountability, transparency and facilitate senior decision-making
• Procurement of works, goods and services as required in delivery of the City’s Resource & Recycling Strategy
• Represent and promote the council through engagement with external stakeholders e.g. Zero Waste Scotland (ZWS), Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA), Association for Public Service Excellence (APSE), etc
• Collaboration with other council departments to support delivery of the council’s Strategic Plan.
• Undertake any other relevant duties as directed by the Group Manager
