Job Description
This is an exciting opportunity to fulfil a strategic role within the leadership team of Neighbourhoods, Regeneration and Sustainability (NRS) in Scotland’s largest local authority which brings together a range of operational, technical and development services that focus on sustainable transport, place making and delivering essential city services. NRS is a large and diverse service that touches on all aspects of life within the city. We value our people and recognise these are our biggest asset in achieving our objectives.
Reporting to the Director of City Development, you will drive forward plans for high quality, sustainable development, regeneration and economic growth across the city whilst ensuring public safety and protecting the historic environment. Your approach will ensure you deliver quality services with a focus on contributing to the council’s commitment to achieving net-zero by 2030.
The post has direct responsibility for the management and delivery of the statutory and regulatory Planning and Building Standards functions for the authority together with directing and overseeing the £400m City Deal programme targeting urban renewal, economic investment and employment.
We want to hear from exceptionally talented individuals with a passion and drive for regenerating and developing Glasgow. As part of the leadership team, you will take a collaborative approach and will be committed to improving the city for our citizens and visitors. You will be a first-class communicator and a natural relationship manager whilst demonstrating excellent leadership skills. You will have an appreciation and understanding of working within a political environment. You will be educated to degree level and hold membership of an appropriate professional body and have extensive experience in planning and regeneration at a senior management level.
You will also perform a strategic role of overseeing a variety of major and complex associated functions, projects aligned to the broader ambitions of the service, the council, and its partners.
Under the Local Government and Housing Act 1989, this post is politically restricted.
A strategic approach and vision to deliver service improvements, financial planning, and people management skills together with substantial experience of developing and achieving organisational goals and targets is essential.
