NRS is a large and diverse service that touches on all aspects of life within the city. We value our people and recognise these are our biggest asset in achieving our objectives.
Reporting to the Director of City Operations, you will oversee the roads and transportation service including fleet services, roads asset management, traffic management, parking services, transport planning/strategy and delivery of high-quality design services to ensure a safe and effective road network while promoting active travel and implementing sustainable transport solutions. You will have a focus on contributing to the council’s target of achieving net-zero by 2030 and this will be embedded in your approach.
The postholder will have direct responsibility for the management and delivery of the statutory roads’ functions for the authority with an annual budget in excess of £50m together with directing and overseeing transport planning/strategy and working with external partners in the delivery of a safe, efficient and user-friendly road network. You will also be responsible for the delivery of fleet services including the maintenance and management of a fleet in excess of 1500 vehicles and other transport related functions.
We want to hear from exceptionally talented individuals with a passion and drive for delivering quality services with a forward-thinking approach who continually champions service improvement. As part of the leadership team, you will be committed to working collaboratively with colleagues and partners on a range of issues. You will be a first-class communicator and a natural relationship manager whilst demonstrating excellent leadership skills. You will have an appreciation and understanding of working within a political environment. You will be educated to degree level and hold membership of an appropriate professional body and have extensive experience in an operational/technical environment at a senior management level.
