Head of Fleet Services

Job Description

Glasgow City Council is recruiting for an experienced Head of Service, to take responsibility for the City’s fleet of over 3,000 vehicles and plant assets and deliver our Net Zero Fleet Management Strategy.

This is a key managerial appointment, shaping the Council’s future fleet management strategies and implementing key change programmes to meet the challenging demands of public services provided by the Council by identifying, planning and implementing programmes of work to improve operational and financial performance, safety standards and regulatory compliance.

You’ll bring exceptional business, people management and leadership skills to take forward the development of our fleet as a corporate asset class, overseeing the replacement of fleet assets, introduction of alternative fuels and associated infrastructure, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, robust contract management and meeting operational requirements with respect to timeliness, quality and cost.

As a key member of the senior management team, you’ll lead an operational staff of over 200 FTE with an annual revenue operating budget approaching £50m, to develop a culture of customer service, business value and continuous improvement, ensuring effective engagement with the fleet services workforce, client and operational service teams, industry partners and stakeholders throughout the supply chain.

Under the Local Government and Housing Act 1989, this post is politically restricted.
