Senior Technician

Job Description

Glasgow Scientific Services (GSS) has an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated individual wishing to extend their analytical skills across a range of sample matrix types. 

We are an official control laboratory for feed and food and as such must produce results to exacting standards. The laboratory is ISO17025 accredited by UKAS for a wide range of analytes giving the right candidate opportunities to gain experience in a variety of analytical techniques.

An understanding of analytical chemistry and experience of working within a chemistry/ microbiology laboratory is essential. You will be required to work as part of a team on a weekend rota covering microbiology testing.

You must possess good laboratory skills and have previous experience of routine analysis.  You should preferably be familiar with using a laboratory information management system (LIMS) and a laboratory quality system.

You must have a flexible approach to work together with good communication skills, IT skills and a good standard of manual dexterity.  The ability to work on your own initiative and establish good relationships with other team members is essential and you must be capable of responding effectively to delegated responsibilities and working with minimum supervision.  

A minimum of an HNC/SCOTVEC or equivalent qualification is essential as is a current driving licence as there is a requirement for the successful applicant to be able to travel to and work on site at various locations throughout Scotland.

The successful candidate would be expected to continue to expand their knowledge and show an aptitude in acquiring new skills.

Contractual overtime - 30 hours per year
