Job Description
Are you a Food Science graduate, or qualified in a related discipline, and looking to start a rewarding career in food safety regulation?
We are seeking enthusiastic and motivated individuals who are committed to completing the required training and building a career in food safety.
Successful candidates will receive structured training and support to work towards the Scottish Food Safety Officers’ Registration Board (SFSORB) Higher Certificate in Food Practice, awarded by the Royal Environmental Health Institute of Scotland (REHIS). Training will prepare you for the professional exams scheduled for 2027.
Successful candidates will have the opportunity to apply for Food Safety Technical Officer roles within the council following the award of the Higher Certificate.
Applications will only be considered if you have confirmation from REHIS that your qualifications meet the requirements of the Scottish Food Safety Officers’ Registration Board and you can confirm this by contacting REHIS with details of your qualifications and experiences. Please note that you should have at least SCQF level 8 (equivalent to HND level) qualification in a science related subject and experience in a food related discipline for this to be considered.
This post requires strong communication skills, a flexible approach to working, good IT skills and an understanding of the role of a Food Safety Technical Officer within a local authority setting.
