Job Description

Join us as a Graduate Surveyor

We are looking to add to our experienced Valuation Team. If you have a relevant RICS accredited degree and are looking to attain RICS Assessment of Professional Competence (APC) qualification, then we may have a role for you.

You must be passionate about public service and keen to be involved in a wide variety of valuation subjects within the compact geographical area that is the great City of Glasgow. If this is you then please consider applying to join our professional and innovative team.

The Role

If you have not already enrolled in your APC, we will support you and pay for you to do so. We provide a structured training plan and have a strong reputation for supporting our trainees to pass their APC. You will have an allocated mentor throughout your training and be able to call on a range of experienced fellow professional including APC Assessors as you build your knowledge and experience.

We have a long tradition of nurturing and developing talent within our teams and regardless of experience you can expect us to match the drive and ambition you bring to your development goals. We trust our teams to deliver for the citizens of Glasgow and we value professionalism, integrity, and innovation.

If successful, you will join one of our four valuation teams, each covering a set geographical area of the city and be responsible for surveying and valuing properties for both Non-domestic Rating and Council Tax. In addition to your valuation duties, you will also discuss and negotiate disposal of proposals (also known as appeals) to alter both Rateable Values and Council Tax Bands including potential presentation of expert witness evidence before the Tribunal Service.

Working for Glasgow City Council offers a comprehensive benefits package, including generous paid leave, a contributory pension scheme, employee assistance programmes, and various discounts and financial support options.

Hybrid working is available in this role, and we look forward to telling you more about our approach to ensuring needs of the business are met along with flexibility to manage and maintain your work life balance.

How you can join us

Our BS3A role profile and person specification relates to the Graduate Surveyor position. Please take time to familiarise yourself with the requirements of the relevant role profile and person specification before completing your application.

We follow a competency-based selection process so you should pay particular attention to the skills, knowledge, and experience section of the application form to ensure your application best demonstrates your ability to meet the requirements. Applicants who best demonstrate competence will be invited for within 3 weeks of the closing date. We anticipate interviews being in person at our offices at 40 John Street in Glasgow City Centre.

If you are short-listed and you chose to attend the competency-based interview with us, you will be able to book an interview time using our online portal. You can use the person specification and guide to describing our competencies to help you prepare for this.

Questions will typically ask you to describe a situation that demonstrates a particular competency and then seek information from you on the actions you took, the outcomes, and what you learned from the experience. The STAR model is a useful approach to this.
