Job Description

Chief Officer: Education – Primary & Early Years

£109,285

Living and working in the Highlands of Scotland really isn’t like anywhere else. It’s a place where community spirit and identity are hugely important in people’s lives. And Education is a central part of this. Our 179 Primary schools and around 200 Early Years settings, spread across our urban settings, small isles and rural areas are all vital elements of successful, sustainable communities. And we are committed to providing the very best education and learning environment for all our children and young people.

This is a unique opportunity for an experienced and committed strategic education leader to make their mark. You will join the organisation at an exciting time: we are already making excellent progress in terms of raising attainment, and with a planned £2.1bn investment programme into our school estate we are perfectly positioned to enhance provision further and ensure consistently excellent provision in all our settings.

It's an opportunity that will suit someone who already has experience of delivering improvement at a system level within Education, and who understands how effective strategic leadership can bring about change at a local level. The ability to work at scale is essential (our local authority has the largest land mass in the UK), while also understanding the practical challenges of delivery in small and dispersed communities.

You’ll work with a highly capable and experienced team, offering the professional assurance that will enable you to retain your strategic focus. And as part of the Council’s Chief Officer group, you will also make a valuable contribution to the organisation’s corporate leadership, playing your part in affecting the social, economic and environmental factors that shape quality of life in the Highlands.
