Job Purpose: Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of children and families who need support? In Highland we are committed to our strategy of Family First– to safely ensure that children and young people remain with their families within their Highland communities. To do this, we want to work creatively with families to empower them to build safety for children and young people, strengthening relationships for the child and their families and networks.

Following a successful pilot of the introduction of family group decision making in Highlands in the Inverness area, we are now looking to launch this across the wider authority.

We are looking for passionate, experienced social workers to be part of this exciting initiative. The successful candidates will be committed to a rights based approach, giving children and families a voice and participation in their own plans, and will be skilled at liaising with the professional network for the child. At the heart of this approach is a core belief in the power of relationships which can provide the protective factors to help children and young people navigate life.

The post holder will be expected to undertake accredited training and support the development and evaluation of the service. They will be experienced in working with complexity with excellent communication skills.

Although the team has a base in Inverness, we are looking to appoint two co-ordinators who will support the roll out of FGDM across the wider Highland area so we are particularly keen to hear from interested applicants who live in those areas. It is anticipated that you will be required to visit children and their families across the wider authority and possibly outwith the authority on occasions.

Please APPLY ONLINE. If you are unable to apply online and you wish to request an offline application pack, please contact Business Support, T: 01955 608279 (24 hour voicemail) quoting the post reference number above.

Please find the Job Description below.

The Highland Council understands that diversity fosters creativity and innovation. We are committed to equality of opportunity, and being fair and inclusive. We welcome applications from people from all backgrounds, representative of the communities we serve and particularly encourage applications from candidates who are likely to be under-represented in our workforce.

As a disability confident employer, we guarantee to interview all disabled applicants who meet the minimum essential criteria requirements for the post.

Shortlisted applicants will normally be contacted by email, unless otherwise stated. Please check your emails regularly, including your junk/spam folder.
