Salary - £37,419.20 - £44,098.60
Applications are invited for a Valuer at the Board’s Headquarters office at Moray House, 16-18 Bank Street, Inverness.
The Highland and Western Isles Valuation Joint Board is an independent public authority established by The Valuation Joint Boards (Scotland) Order 1995.
We provide a professional valuation and electoral registration service for both Highland and Western Isles areas in respect of compilation and maintenance of the Valuation Roll, Valuation (Council Tax) Lists, and Registers of Electors.
You will principally be required to undertake the survey and valuation of all lands and heritages, in a designated geographical area, for the purpose of the Lands Valuation Acts and the Local Government Finance Act 1992. You will also be responsible for the collation and analysis of rental, sales and cost data, systematic and timeous attention to all correspondence regarding valuation matters, negotiation of proposals with individual ratepayers and/or their professional agents and when required appearing as an expert witness before Tribunals.
Applicants should be a Chartered Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and preferably have knowledge and experience in valuation for rating and council tax. You should have well-developed analytical, valuation and negotiation skills and effective written/oral communication skills. Well-developed literacy, numeracy and computer skills are essential.
Applicants should have excellent communication and team working skills and a positive, professional and responsible attitude, coupled with the ability to multi-task, whilst ensuring strict deadlines are achieved. Familiarity in working with the public will also be an advantage.
You will be expected to travel efficiently and effectively between various work locations within the Highland area to meet the operational requirements of the service.
