Make a life here

You're never far from anything. Edinburgh city centre and the airport are a short hop by road, and the Borders Railway runs half-hourly into Edinburgh Waverley, with stations at Shawfair, Eskbank, Newtongrange and Gorebridge — some as little as twenty minutes from the city. Frequent buses tie the towns and villages together. You can work locally and skip the long commute, still reaching Edinburgh whenever you want it. Midlothian's towns and villages have their own strong sense of identity and local pride.

Midlothian is a popular choice for families and professionals alike. New communities like Shawfair are growing fast, with new homes, schools and local centres built in from the start. Established towns like Dalkeith, Penicuik and Bonnyrigg offer high streets, amenities and a strong sense of community on your doorstep. Traditional villages nestled in the rolling hills offer beautiful landscapes and a lifestyle closer to nature. Whichever suits you, you'll find it in Midlothian.

There's a lot on your doorstep. The Pentland Hills Regional Park runs along the western edge, with miles of walking, running and cycling straight out of town. Hillend — the Midlothian Snowsports Centre — is the UK's longest dry ski slope, open all year for skiing, snowboarding, tubing and the alpine coaster. Dalkeith Country Park packs 1,000 acres of woodland, waymarked trails, the Fort Douglas adventure playground and Go Ape's treetop courses into a spot minutes from the city bypass. And history is everywhere you look, from the intricately carved Rosslyn Chapel to the National Mining Museum at Newtongrange.

Midlothian truly is "a great, green place to grow". You can build the life you want here: start a career, change direction, or raise a family, with the space and the support to do it your way. With proud communities, excellent schools, modern housing developments and easy access to Edinburgh and beyond, more people are choosing to make Midlothian their home. Make it yours too.
