An exciting opportunity has arisen to manage our Workshop function which currently operates from Bonnyrigg Garage and Stobhill Depot. As a confident and experienced leader with technical qualifications to match you will have responsibility to keep the Council fleet of cars, vans, buses, gritters, road rollers, and HGV refuse vehicles on the road delivering essential services to our communities. The Council also operates a significant amount of plant such as push and ride on grass mowers, tree chippers, mini-diggers, snow plough attachments etc.
You will need an agile workstyle moving from planned maintenance to breakdown repairs and be a skilled negotiator to ensure smooth delivery of parts and materials from the supply chain within financial budget.
It is essential that are eligible to hold the Vehicle Operators Licence on behalf of the Council. You shall ensure full legal and health and safety compliance of the service areas under your control.
The Council will typically make annual pension contributions in aggregate of around 16% of gross salary to Lothian Pension Fund, if the postholder chooses to enrol.
Essential
Educated to degree level in a subject appropriate to their area of responsibility, or in lieu of a degree at least five-year recent relevant experience in an organisation of comparable size and complexity with appropriate technical qualifications.
The post holder must demonstrate at least 5 years’ experience working effectively at the strategic and corporate level of a large organisation with a clear understanding of the legislative framework within which the service operates.
The postholder will be a technical expert in their area of responsibility and hold a statutory qualification to deliver a statutory function on behalf of the Council.
Clear evidence of commitment to continuing professional development.
A driving licence is essential.
Desirable
Chartered Membership or equivalent in a subject appropriate to their area of responsibility
A post-graduate management qualification in a relevant professional discipline or completion of a recognised management development or leadership programme would be desirable.
