Job Description

To support local community sport clubs to become stronger, sustainable, safe and inclusive organisations. This will be achieved by building strong relationships with club leaders and providing bespoke developmental support to identified clubs.

The outcome will be growth in participation within club sport. Supporting clubs to respond to community needs and priorities in Moray, in line with Council and sportscotland policy, will also be a development area.

Partnership working with internal teams and external organisations, as well as the clubs, will be a key focus to ensure impact.

Requirements

This post is considered to be a ‘Regulated Role’ under the Disclosure (Scotland) Act 2020. Under the Act, it is a legal requirement for an individual undertaking a regulated role with children or protected adults to be a member of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme. The successful candidate will therefore be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme Update check prior to any formal offer of employment being made by Moray Council.

Responsibilities

To lead the development of the club sport offer across Moray in line with the ‘Active Moray’ strategy and sportscotland’s ‘Sport for Life’ Strategy.

Identify appropriate sport clubs in Moray to support and develop, in partnership with National Governing Bodies of Sport (NGBs), sportscotland and the Leisure & Culture Service team.

Create reporting and evaluation processes to measure the impact of supported clubs, in partnership with sportscotland and Council Officers.

Adopt a ‘Meeting Community Need’ approach to proactively use sport and physical activity as an intentional tool to achieve both increased participation and wider social outcomes.

The Individual

  • Experience of working in a Sports Development environment – minimum 3yrs.
  • Experience of managing volunteers and working with children and adults – minimum 3yrs.
  • Experience in managing budgets.
  • Experience in successful partnership working and the ability to identify good practice.
  • Experience of formulating strategic plans, delivering and achieving results.
  • Educated to degree level in a specific discipline ie sport or physical activity
  • Ability to write development plans and reports and monitor these effectively.
  • Ability to prioritise tasks, meet deadlines and work on own initiative.
  • Effective communication and organisational skills.
  • Ability to build effective relationships and influence voluntary leaders.
  • Working knowledge of software applications including Word & Excel.
  • Ability to undertake basic admin tasks such as filing and letter writing.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the aims and objectives of sportscotland projects and local community sport clubs.
  • Knowledge and experience of delivering projects that support wider social outcomes.
  • Demonstrate an ability to engage with the public on a range of concurrent projects and promotions.
  • You will be expected to travel efficiently and effectively between various work locations within Moray to meet the operational requirements of the Service. Due to the rural nature of Moray, this is normally undertaken by use of a car / van.
  • Effective inter-personal and communication skills; both oral and written, including ability to influence and negotiate.
  • Possess personal motivation, which inspires a strong commitment to the concept of developing community sport clubs.
  • Ability to effectively liaise with a variety of agencies.
  • Effective organisational skills with the ability to manage a range of projects concurrently.
  • Ability to engage with clubs/groups which can lead to key partnership developments, collaborative working and sustainability.
  • Resilient and able to deal confidently with difficult challenges.
  • Value and promote equality and diversity within community sport.
  • Ability to work flexibly (evenings and weekends) to meet the needs and demands of the service.

 

Temporary Post until 31/03/27 with the potential for extension longer term, dependant on funding.
