Job Description

Based in Elgin, the work will entail the acceptance, storage, treatment, transfer and disposal of controlled waste arriving at the Council’s disposal facilities. The role is a multi-skilled one where the post holder will be asked to undertake a variety of individual roles within disposal. There may also be a need to work at various other facilities to cover for sickness absence and annual leave.

The Individual

Must hold digital driver’s tachograph card

Must hold Driver CPC

Must hold Cat C Licence

Significant experience of employment of a similar nature i.e. predominantly labour intensive

Must have a good level of literacy in order to read and act on instructions

Knowledge of general plant & vehicle maintenance

Able to work unsupervised under instruction and as part of an effective team

Ability to follow routines and instructions and own initiative when required.

Self-confident and self-motivated and adaptable

Able to operate: LGV and ancillaries; Earthmoving plant; Forklift truck; Industrial shredder; Industrial Baler

Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively with colleagues and members of the public

Ability to work as part of a team and contribute to the practice of good team working

Willingness to accept direction/delegation

Physically capable of medium labouring duties and a small amount of handling large/heavy/awkward items and able to work outdoors in inclement conditions.

Ability to work in an extremely unhygienic environment

Ability to work flexibly to meet the needs and demands of the service
