Job Description
To assist the Council in developing a culture which encourages Equality, Diversity and Inclusion that meets existing and developing Equal Opportunities and Human Rights legislation by working with service departments to support the changes required.
To play a significant role in development, implementing, promoting and monitoring the Council’s corporate policies and processes in particular in relation to tackling poverty
Requirements
Assist services to assess and evaluate Council policies, strategies, and plans in relation to Equal Opportunities and Human Rights legislation.
Play the lead role in the development, implementation, monitoring, and review of the Council’s approach to delivering on, and demonstrating its commitment to, Equal Opportunities and the Council’s statutory duties under equalities and human rights legislation.
Assist in coordinating and developing efforts to improve the life chances of individuals and groups.
Manage and monitor the Council’s Interpreting, Translation and Transcription contracts.
Act as the Council’s main point of contact, and principal adviser, on all issues relating to Equal Opportunities and Human Rights
The Individual
Three years equal opportunities experience
Degree and/or relevant professional qualification
Ability to manage and prioritise own workload and use initiative in achieving solutions to problem solving situations
Ability to relate to Chief Officers, colleagues, staff and public
Good time management
Flexible and adaptable Project management skills
Good written and oral communication
Research & analytical skills
Implementing and evaluating projects and initiatives
Full current driving licence and access to a vehicle Maintain confidentially
Ability to develop good working relationships in a wide range of bodies
Sensitivity to local and organisational issues
Team working
Good negotiating, facilitation and influencing skills Ability to deal with and resolve conflicting issues and interests
Ability to work under pressure whilst meeting deadlines
Public or voluntary sector experience
Knowledge of Scottish Government priorities
Awareness of issues effecting local government
Knowledge and use of Microsoft Office and the Internet
Experience of Partnership working
