Job Description
The role is focused on the prevention of homelessness through the delivery of mediation and liaising with landlords and families to reduce the risk of homelessness or tenancy break-down, as well as the exploration of alternative housing options. The Housing Options Advisor will work with vulnerable households to try and prevent, wherever possible, homelessness arising.
Requirements
To offer tailored information, advice and mediation to prevent people from becoming homeless.
To liaise with landlords and tenants in relation to Landlord and Tenant Act 1985, Section 11’s and Risk Assessment Plans.
To provide an enhanced advice and assistance to vulnerable adults at risk of homelessness.
To keep good records of all contact with service users and to ensure that these are kept updated and that they are comprehensive for audit purposes.
To maintain and manage cases until there is a clear outcome to a customer’s housing situation.
The Individual
Demonstrable experience of working with people with multiple needs, e.g. addictions or mental health problems.
Proven experience of assessing people in housing need.
Experience of multi-disciplinary working, e.g criminal justice team, social work.
Good use of ICT and experience of using Microsoft Office or equivalent package on a daily/regular basis.
Minimum of 4 school level qualifications including Arithmetic and English.
Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
Proven ability to organise, plan, monitor workload and to keep accurate records.
Willingness to accept direction/delegation.
The ability to gain the confidence of people vulnerable to homelessness and ability to build up good rapport with them.
You will be expected to travel efficiently and effectively between various work locations within Moray to meet the operational requirements of the Service. Due to the rural nature of Moray this is normally undertaken by use of a car/van.

Ability to show empathy and sensitivity towards others.
Home visits to clients in Own Tenancies or current accommodation.
Ability to work flexibly in open plan office to meet the needs and demands of the service.
