Job Description
To support the delivery of the Council’s Improving Attendance project to secure a reduction in levels of absence and associated costs. This will be by working closely with managers to support people to remain in or return to work through early intervention and a culture of wellbeing and by ensuring the planned management of all cases in accordance with council policy.
The postholder will provide specialist Human Resources advice and support to promote and sustain attendance at work through the implementation of attendance improvement initiatives and strategies.
Requirements
- Provide specialist Human Resources support to improve and sustain attendance at work.
- Support the consistent application of attendance related procedures and approaches
- Identify attendance trends and priority areas for targeted support
- Contribute to the development, review and implementation of employment policies and practices
- Work collaboratively across Human Resources and Organisational Development functions to support delivery of the Improving Attendance Project
The Individual
Experience in a generalist human resources role, with experience/knowledge of:
- Providing HR advisory support to managers
- Employee relations case management including absence and dismissals
- Handling challenging and sensitive people situations
- Working with managers and trade unions
Degree in relevant discipline or equivalent relevant experience
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, verbally and in writing
Ability to exercise sound judgement, including in challenging conversations
Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships
Knowledge of human resources policies and legislation and ability to relate it to practical attendance and people management issues
Ability to gain the trust and confidence of managers
Ability to work accurately and to accept responsibility for own work
Sound knowledge of good HR practice and ability to give constructive, proportionate advice under pressure
Confident and professional approach
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, including in challenging or sensitive situations
Ability to maintain professional confidence and judgement when working in challenging or pressurised situations
Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion at all times
Ability to relate effectively to people at all levels across the organisation
Ability to facilitate discussions, meetings or briefings with managers or groups
Full driving licence and access to a vehicle, or ability to travel independently between schools and Council locations across Moray
