Job Description

To undertake janitorial and minor repairs and maintenance tasks.

Requirements

To ensure the provision of an effective and efficient service within the overall priorities of establishments.

To undertake operational duties within base establishment.

To undertake technical duties within base establishments.

Complying with the Health and Safety requirements and provisions and ensuring that safe working practices are adopted and that all equipment is operated safely.

Responsibilities

  • To ensure the provision of an effective and efficient service within the overall priorities of establishments.
    • To discuss the weekly programme with the Group Supervisor/Senior Janitor and to agree priorities.
    • To co-ordinate services with other staff where appropriate and to ensure that work is completed on time.
    • To assist in ensuring that health and safety procedures are correctly applied during periods of community use at establishments.
    • To carry out agreed procedures in the event of fire, flood, vandalism, breaking and entering or other emergency.
    • To assist in the control, security and ordering of appropriate stock.
    • To assist in ensuring that high standards of customer care are maintained within facilities as per the Council's Customer Care Charter.
    • To take every precaution to ensure that all functions meet health and safety requirements.
    • Other reasonable duties as deemed necessary by the Group Supervisor/Senior Janitor.
  • Operational Duties within base establishment
    • To carry out supervisory duties in social areas, playgrounds and car park areas in secondary schools.
    • To review with the Head Teacher/s the programme for ensuring that the day to day priorities for the school/s are carried out.
    • To carry out essential health, safety and security tasks as delegated by the Head Teacher or Group Supervisor/Senior Janitor.
    • To report accidents, incidents and potential hazards as required by procedure.
    • To ensure that all janitorial equipment is in safe working condition.
    • To carry out repairs to furniture and designated items of equipment subject to any necessary prior safety precaution.
    • To carry out minor maintenance and cleaning duties as appropriate including litter collection on hard surfaces and occasional pitch lining.
    • To report repair or maintenance work which is beyond competence.
    • To direct workers and contractors to sites of repair and to inspect and sign completion dockets when required.
    • To carry out frost protection duties as described in Council procedures.
    • To bring to the attention of the Head Teacher suggestions and ways in which energy savings might be made.
    • Set up and dismantling furniture and equipment as required.
    • Other reasonable duties as deemed necessary by the Head Teacher.

Experience of care and maintenance of property

You will be expected to travel efficiently and effectively between various locations with Moray to meet the operational requirements of the service. Due to the rural nature of Moray this is normally undertaken by use of a car/van

Able to carry out handyman/basic maintenance duties

Ability to work periodically in unpleasant conditions inside and outside

Active listening and verbal communication skills for effective interaction with members of the public and staff

Ability to move furniture & equipment in conjunction with moving and handling regulations

Able to work both indoors and outdoors as required

Ability to operate equipment and machinery as detailed in the job description

Must be flexible to meet the needs and demands of the service including the ability to work outwith normal hours

Starting Salary: £25,692.55 (Pro-rata)
