Refuse Driver (Chargehand)

Job Description

Based in Buckie, the work will entail the uplift of waste from residential and commercial premises by organising staff levels within the depot to ensure each route is adequately manned and all daily routes completed. The Chargehand is to be aware of route collection progress and to report any issues/anticipated unfinished routes to Team Leaders before end of day as well as ensuring additional responsibilities within the depot are covered such as street sweeping, uplifting of fly tipping and any other duties as instructed by Team Leaders. Our Chargehands must also ensure that the highest standards are met with regard to Health and Safety and that the duties performed comply with all statutory legislation including Goods Vehicle Operators Licence.

The Individual

Minimum 1 year experience in an HGV driving post Communicate effectively both orally & in writing HGV Licence & valid Driver CPC Able to work on own under instruction and as part of team Understanding instructions given and delivering a high-quality service based on these Good leadership skills Awareness of Health & Safety and safe working practices Resolving issues and contributing to continuous improvement of service Able to communicate with members of the public Ability to work as part of a team and contribute to the practice of good team working Willingness to accept and issue direction/delegation Showing respect for people at all levels Display a positive approach to work Respecting council equipment, premises & property Ability to work flexibly to meet the needs and demands of the service Ability to perform manual handling duties to lift heavy/awkward objects Ability to work in all weather conditions Interview Date: 20 March 2026 Starting Salary: £29,110.12 Location: Buckie Hours per week: 39 (37 plus 2 hrs vehicle maintenance) Further information Tel: 07800 670 639
