Job Description

To be responsible for the organisation and conduct of statutory reviews and child protection planning meetings in respect of looked after children and children at risk and in need of care and protection.

 

To contribute to the development of children and families and justice social work’s professional practice via audit and evaluation and to ensure increased quality in terms of outcomes for children and young people.

 

Responsibilities

To chair reviews of looked after and accommodated children and child protection planning meetings in addition to meetings that support those processes.

 

To work collaboratively as a member of the Reviewing Team to ensure Reviews are conducted within appropriate timescales and to high standards.

 

To have a lead role in quality assurance, self-evaluation, service improvement and development

 

The Individual

Significant post qualifying children’s services experience, including

Child’s planning

Child Protection

Work with looked after children/ care experienced children and young people.

 

Experience in assessing need and risk in childcare practice. Experience of assessing, implementing and reviewing care and protection plans.

 

Experience in chairing effective professional meetings.

Previous experience of evaluation and/or service improvement activities.

 

CQSW, CSS or Dip Social Work or equivalent SSSC Registered

Effective presentation, organisational, time management skills

Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to work under own initiative.

Ability to remain task focused.

Capacity to handle complex information.

A working knowledge of Word, Outlook, Internet Explorer and Excel.

Sound working knowledge of primary and secondary child care legislation.

Ability to chair effective, thorough, focused meetings.

Ability to read visual clues, body language and behaviour, alongside verbal communication in meetings.

Ability to calm stressful discussions and stressed people.

Ability to challenge appropriately and productively.

 

You will be expected to travel efficiently and effectively between various work locations within and outwith Moray to meet the operational requirements of the Service. Due to the rural nature of Moray this is normally undertaken by use of a car.

 

Ability to engage with monitoring and evaluations processes.

Ability to liaise with colleagues, general public and effectively chair meetings.

Effective negotiating abilities, tact and sensitivity.

Ability to work within a group. Ability to work flexibly to meet the needs and demands of the service.

The capacity to handle stressful situations.

Ability to work in an open plan office/ from home. Ability to work in different offices dependent on service requirements.

 

This post is considered to be a ‘Regulated Role’ under the Disclosure (Scotland) Act 2020. Under the Act it is a legal requirement for an individual undertaking a regulated role with children or protected adults to be a member of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme.

 

Therefore, the successful candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme Update check prior to any formal offer of employment being made by Moray Council
