Job Description

Assist in the delivery, support and management of Kinship care arrangements for Looked After Children and young people within Moray.

 

Responsibilities

Assess Kinship carers in line with The Looked After regulations 2009 and agency guidelines.

Assist in the identification and delivery of training for Kinship Carers of Looked After Children.

Ensure the provision of direct support to Kinship Carers in line with their needs and to support the child’s care plan.

Raise awareness of Kinship Care within Moray.

Take part in the Duty System, responding to general enquiries and providing advice and guidance

Work as a member of Kinship Team and within family placement services.

Undertake appropriate administrative tasks relating to provision of service, including maintenance of electronic recording systems.

Engage in appropriate supervision and undertake suitable training relevant to professional development.

 

The Individual

¨Significant experience within childcare/child protection and in family placement sections of statutory social work including participation in Looked After and Accommodated processes. ¨

A Degree / CQSW/ Diploma in Social Work / and SSSC Registration. ¨

Knowledge of, and ability to, work effectively within relevant kinship care, childcare and protection legislation and practice. ¨

Effective verbal communications skills. ¨

Ability to work as a team member. ¨

Good organisational skills ¨ Assessment and report writing skills. ¨

Familiarity with getting it right for every child in Kinship and foster care. ¨

Familiarity with kinship care legislation and regulations. ¨

Capacity to support carers during times of transition and in meeting the needs of young people. ¨

Ability to contribute to service development. ¨

You will be expected to travel efficiently and effectively between various work locations within Moray to meet the operational requirements of the Service. Due to the rural nature of Moray this is normally undertaken by use of a car/van. ¨

Ability to work within the bounds of confidentiality. ¨

Ability to deal with personal stress, and support carers in crisis. ¨

Honesty and integrity and a commitment to non-discriminatory practice. ¨

Able to undertake manual tasks and work in a flexible manner. ¨

Ability to work flexibly including evenings and weekends as required to meet the needs and demands of the service. ¨

Ability to work in different offices dependent on service requirements. ¨

The capacity to handle stressful situations.

 

This post is considered to be a ‘Regulated Role’ under the Disclosure (Scotland) Act 2020. Under the Act it is a legal requirement for an individual undertaking a regulated role with children or protected adults to be a member of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme. Therefore, the successful candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme Update check prior to any formal offer of employment being made by Moray Council
